| 内容記述 | In So^seki Natsume’s Kokoro, the narrator who writes the first and second of three parts of this novel makes frequent references to his youth, a time of his life when he was connected to Sensei. However, in focusing on this term, the reader must come to recognize that the narrator had already lost his “youth” and had become a sufficiently mature adult by the time he had written this novel. While Kokoro was written in 1914, approximately two years after Sensei wrote his last testament (1912), it is never revealed in the novel when the narrator wrote the first and second parts.Accordingly,an issue arises in that the reader is not sure whether he or she should regard the narrator as having still been young at the time of writing this novel or as having been in the process of recalling a distant past long after the death of Sensei at a time when the narrator was no longer young. This critique focuses on the narrator’s youth,such that interpretations of the novel are shown to vary depending on where the frame of reference is placed. It is also concluded that, if the narrator is thought to have already lost his youth at the time that he was writing his private papers, parallels could be drawn between this act and the inclusion in Sensei’s testament of his reminiscent attitude towards his school days. | |||||
