In connection with them, damage was incurred by Japanese companies and Japanese individuals in China. Serious mate­rial and immaterial damage was caused not only to Japan, but also to China itself. Many Japanese who were planning travel to China during the week of holidays that runs from the end of April to the begin­ning of May, were reported as having been canceled. Moreover, in the long run, it is expected that Japanese visitors to the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and the Shanghai Exposition in 2010 will sharply decrease in number for similar reasons. China needs to realize successes through the Olympic games and the Shanghai Exposition to support further economic development.
