In France, the Act of 2005 on Patientsʼ Rights and End of Life Care, known as the “Leonetti Act”, introduced several new measures. Nevertheless, the legal provisions are still not always fully known :end-of-life decisions are not always discussed with the patients and medical teams, plus very few patients draw up advance directives, as recommended in the Leonetti Act, and which the Vincent Lambert case is the first court referring to. Legalising “right to die” such as terminal sedation, assisted suicide, euthanasia remains a extremely controversial topic in the social and political arena, as seen since the 2012 presidential election -Rapport Sicard -Avis of CCNE and until now. This study focuses on the recent debate on end-of-life care and right to die in France.
