A couple of redox peaks have been observed for the cyclic voltammogram of the laccase-immobilized electrode, suggesting that direct electron transfer occurs between the enzyme molecule and the electrode. Magnitude of the oxidation peak current around +0.36 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) has been found to increase with the addition of 4-chloro-2-methoxyphenol (4C2M), as a substrate. Further, the degradation activity of laccase for 4C2M has been observed to be enhanced by applying an electrode potential of 0.5V in a degradation experiment, performed with an electrochemical reactor, employing the laccase-immobilized electrode. These results suggest the possibility that the substrate can be electrocatalytically degraded with the laccase-immobilized electrode, as developed in the present
